Community, Coffee and Connection in Corolla

A few weeks back, Our EPIC Project hosted a community coffee hour at First Light in Tim Buck II in Corolla. The purpose of the event was to showcase some of the valuable resources and agencies available to assist residents in our area for health and wellbeing.



Thank you to all the agencies, organizations and community members who came out to join us. A special thank you to Henry and First Light for hosting!


Heres a brief description and contact information for all of the folks on hand. Please know that these resources are FREE and available to everyone in our community.


Community Risk Reduction Specialist- Jennifer Hoit 252-232-7746

The Currituck County community risk reduction program is a service of the FIRE/EMS Department. The mission is to “protect and improve the safety and health of the citizens and visitors of Currituck County, North Carolina”. The community risk reduction program works to connect citizens and visitors in need to resources in the community.

Veteran Service Officer- Noel Gregory 252-435-4593

The Veteran Services Officer (VSO) for Currituck and Camden Counties is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of local veterans and their families by providing compassionate support, accurate guidance, and personalized advocacy. The VSO educates veterans on their benefits, assists with filing claims, and represents them in navigating the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) system. NEED ASSISTANCE


Currituck Senior Services- Stacey Joseph 252-232-3505

Currituck Senior Services currently utilizes the Corolla Library to offer Bi-weekly Yoga Sept - June, quarterly/seasonal presentations and occasional day trip opportunities.   In addition to physical Senior Center locations, Senior Services is a focal point for all senior needs providing information on senior related topics and referrals for non-housed services.  These services can include but are not limited to ramps, home repair, in-home health, LIEAP (Low Income Energy Assistance Program – DSS), Shelters, Caregiver Support, Veterans Services, Support groups, housing, etc.  MORE


Currituck Opioid Settlement Program- Angela Lottman 252-273-9632

Currituck County is utilizing funds from national opioid settlements to implement targeted strategies aimed at addiction recovery and prevention, with a significant focus on establishing a local recovery court and supporting community-based services. Currituck Animal Shelter/Control-Director Rachel Stone 252-453-8682

The Department of Animal Services and Control is responsible for operating the animal shelter and providing animal control services for the citizens of Currituck County. They handle all aspects of domesticated animal safety and welfare concerns. The staff is responsible for protecting the rights of animals in the community to ensure proper care and accommodations are provided. A team of social workers, income maintenance caseworkers, management personnel, and support staff work to provide County citizens:


Economic and Social Work services

Public assistance programs

Assisting families in achieving self-sufficiency

Protects children from neglect and abuse and investigates complaints

Coordinates foster care, health support, and adoption services for children

Licenses foster care homes

Assists senior and disabled adults in their efforts to lead independent and productive lives

Administers Food Stamp, Medicaid, Energy, and Work First Family Assistance program

Protects elderly and disabled adults from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and investigation of these referrals

Outer Banks Health partners with ECU Health, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare and other regional providers to connect residents and visitors with high-quality care.

Through community outreach, it offers free mobile health screenings and ongoing education, support programs and events.

Cross Roads OBX is a Kill Devil Hills, NC-based faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports individuals facing addiction, homelessness, incarceration, or personal crisis. They provide resources such as counseling, detox/rehab placement, second-chance employment, and temporary housing to help residents move toward stability and rehabilitation. MORE

NAMI Outer Banks NC is an organization of families, friends and individuals whose lives have been affected by mental illness. Interfaith Community Outreach- Jeniffer Albanese, Executive Director

Interfaith Community Outreach provides assistance to individuals facing a temporary emergency crisis in Dare and Currituck County. They offer direct services—including financial support for housing, medical bills, and utility needs—alongside cancer support, veteran services, mental health support services, and home rehabilitation, aiming to "bridge the gap" for neighbors in need.
