STRENGTHEN
Mental Health Initiatives
Living and working at the beach is a dream for many. The truth is- that living and working in these communities come with a host of issues that can impact mental health. Seasonality can be manic, anxiety and stress dominate the high season, depression and isolation in the low season, substance issues and lack of mental health resources are problems that many beach communities face.
We want to empower the folks in our community to look out for each other and provide resources that help us do just that. Community based initiatives including providing training programs, awareness and resources, and organizing community activities are just a start. Our hope is to develop an ongoing program that supports these efforts and builds upon them to create a foundation for better mental health. It's what we like to call "Our EPIC Wellness Journey"
Resources
Having a single place to go to when you need help, want to learn something new, or just want connect with others is incredibly valuable. Our goal is to create a comprehensive list of resources for our community that encompass all aspects of mental health and well being from national crisis hotlines, to local and regional programs and wellness resources

Training and Education
We've trained over 150 Mental Health First Aiders here in the Outer Banks Community. These folks have learned how to spot and respond to mental health and substance abuse issues, which is super important for reducing stigma and promoting better mental health in our community. We even have a certified instructor available for Adult MHFA training. If you're interested in hosting a Mental Health First Aid training program for your organization, hit us up!
