The sun is shining, the temps are rising and things are certainly heating up here on the Outer Banks, especially here in Corolla in a very EPIC way for the month of May.
Over the past few months a group of Corolla citizens began meeting with Our EPIC project to form what we now call the "EPIC Collective." This Collective will be brainstorming and implementing several mental health and wellness initiatives in the Corolla Community. As we turn the calendar page to May and Mental Health Awareness Month, Our EPIC Project will focus its attention on promoting mental health messaging, especially in the workplace.
"I think that May is the perfect opportunity to both address and work toward decreasing the stigma of talking about mental health. Being a close-knit community, mental wellness is about supporting each other and looking for ways to continue to allow our community to flourish. It is not only about being there when we're feeling down, but also about being there when our community is feeling empowered.
This May, EPIC is working to increase conversations around mental health, inform local businesses on what to look for in employees when heading into the Summer, and provide Narcan to 'hot spots' around town for emergency use. May is also time to nominate a deserving family for Our EPIC Summer Family Vacation Retreat. all of us at Outer Banks Boil Company have been honored to be a part of so many family vacation traditions. We realize that for every family we serve, there are several others who are unable to enjoy this simple but well deserved break.
At Our Epic Project we know the value of a family vacation is not only the fun had and the memories made, but it’s great for mental health. Taking a family vacation can reduces stress, increase serotonin levels, and provide an opportunity for families to connect. Being able receive these benefits without the financial burden is where Our EPIC Project steps in. We want to be able to make the dream of experiencing an EPIC family vacation retreat a reality for one deserving family!
